  39. Please distribute the unregistered LIGHTS95.ZIP file to as many places possible.
  40. DO NOT distribute a registered copy!!!

  43. Installation:
  44. =============
  45. Copy the above files to a directory of your choice on your hard drive.  User settings 
  46. are stored in this same directory when the program is run.  Therefore, to uninstall 
  47. or remove Holiday Lights from your hard drive, simply delete the folder where it 
  48. was installed.
  49.  
  50.  
  51. Running:
  52. ========
  53. To run the program, double-click on the file (LIGHTS.EXE).  The lights 
  54. will be hung from the top of the Windows 95 desktop and an icon 
  55. will be placed on the taskbar.  To change the Holiday Lights options, 
  56. click on the light icon on the taskbar.  You may also right-click on the
  57. taskbar icon to present a menu of options for Holiday Lights.

  61. Settings:
  62. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  64. Flashing Mode:
  65. ==============
  66. None:         Select this to leave lights on (no flashing).
  67. Random:       This allows lights to flash independently.
  68. All At Once:  All lights flash on and off at the same time.
  69. Chase:        Lights "chase" each other.
  70. Alternating:  Every other light in the string is on at the same time.
  71. Some Flash:   Some of the lights in the string flash, the other remain lit at all times.
  72.  
  73. Bulbs:
  74. ======
  75. Check these options to simulate real-world burnt-out and broken light bulbs.
  76. (Note that the broken bulbs only work on the normal bulbs.)
  77. You may also select the bulb type from the combobox.  Note that the broken
  78. option only works with the normal bulb type.  You may select the bulbs from 
  79. either the combobox or the popup bulb icon in the group.
  80.  
  81. Flash Rate:
  82. ===========
  83. Selects the speed at which the lights flash.  You may select very slow,
  84. slow, medium, fast or very fast.
  85.  
  86. Color:
  87. ======
  88. Selects the colors of the light bulbs.  The first option allows random
  89. colors for each light.  The last three options allow red & green,
  90. multi-colored light or blue sets.  You may also select the options which use
  91. the same color bulb for the entire string of lights.  Note that the color
  92. option does not affect some of the light bulbs.

  95. Show Options at Startup:
  96. ========================
  97. If this box is checked, the option dialog is shown when Holiday Lights
  98. is started.
  99.  
  100. Music:
  101. ======
  102. Play Music:  Check this box to turn on the music.  Selected entries
  103.              in the music list will be played in sequential order.
  104.  
  105. Power:
  106. ======
  107. Turns the lights on/off.
  108.  
  109. Pressing the "Help" pushbutton on the settings dialog to show this
  110. information.
  111.  
  112.  
  113. Screen Saver:
  114. =============
  115.  
  116. Select the screen saver type from the combobox.  Checking the enable box
  117. will enable the Holiday Lights screen saver.
  118. Pressing the "Test" button shows what the selected screen saver will look 
  119. like.  Pressing the "Setup" button allows the parameters for the screen
  120. saver to be changed.
  121.  
  122. Screen Saver Setup options:
  123. ===========================
  124. Select the default timeout period before the screen saver turns on.  Check
  125. the Ignore Win95 saver box to prevent the default Win95 screen saver from
  126. becoming active.  Check the mouse movement and mouse click boxes to determine
  127. if either task will stop the Holiday Lights screen saver.
  128.  
  129. Misc:
  130. =====
  131. More Lights: Check this box to have more lights in the string.
  132. Zoom F/X: Check this box to turn on the zoom effects when windows open/close.
  133. Sound F/X: Check this box to have sound effects turned on.
  134. Flash LEDs: Check this box to have the keyboard status lights on your system flash.
  135.  
  136.  
  137. Suggestions / Troubleshooting:
  138. ==============================
  139. Holiday Lights works best when the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen and
  140. there are no icons at the top of the Windows 95 desktop.  If windows or icons
  141. are dragged "behind" the lights, the lights will "stick" to the object being
  142. dragged.  This is not completely desirable, but a known side effect due to the
  143. way the lights are drawn on the desktop.  Registered users will be updated
  144. if/when this can be fixed.
  145.  
  146. The Holiday Lights program does not show up on the taskbar as a running application,
  147. but rather as a utility in the icon tray next to the clock in the taskbar.  Click the
  148. light bulb icon with the left button to bring up the options dialog.  Click the
  149. icon with the right button to bring up a menu of options.
  150.  
  151. If you cannot hear music, check the following:
  152. Is the power switch on?  Is the Play Music box checked?  Are there any songs
  153. checked in the listbox?  Are there any song files listed in the listbox (which
  154. are in the same directory as the LIGHTS95.EXE)?
  155.  
  156. To add other music, copy MIDI files of your choice into the same directory
  157. where LIGHTS95.EXE resides.  You may then select the music in the Holiday
  158. Lights Options dialog.
  159.  
  160. If your Windows95 screen saver does not work when Holiday Lights is running,
  161. check to ensure that Holiday Lights is not ignoring the default Win95 screen
  162. saver.  You can see this option by pressing the "Setup" button in the screen
  163. saver options in Holiday Lights.  This does nothing to diable the Windows95
  164. screen saver when Holiday Lights is not running.
  165.  
  166. Window zoom effects are best enabled when running on a Pentium and/or using
  167. a graphics accelerator card.
